The conductor is the central part of the cable that carries electric current. In aluminium armoured cables, the conductor is made of high-conductivity aluminium, which serves as a lightweight and cost-effective alternative to copper.
Aluminium conductors provide good electrical performance while significantly reducing the overall cable weight and cost. They are especially suitable for power distribution systems where large conductor sizes are required, as aluminium’s lower density makes handling and installation easier.
Despite having slightly lower electrical conductivity than copper, aluminium conductors compensate by using a larger cross-sectional area to achieve similar current-carrying capacity. They are also resistant to corrosion when properly terminated, making them durable for both underground and overhead installations.
